When you’re living a nomadic life, you need to think a few flights ahead.

Always make sure you have proof of onward travel when traveling abroad (unless you have a digital nomad or work visa). This is just a purchased ticket showing that you do intend to actually leave the country.

Also check the official requirements for entering a country (entry requirements, length of stay allowed for tourist visas and other key information). Rules can change depending on things like your visa.

Another smart move is to buy tickets ahead of time and plan your biggest trips (for visiting and purchasing) during shoulder seasons to avoid crowds and save some money.

For example, when I flew from America to Japan, I bought a round trip from September to December (coming back Christmas week). But I only paid around $350.

September is a slower travel season and I didn’t wait to buy a return ticket (because obviously Christmas-week flights would be super expensive. So I planned ahead and shopped during a typically slow time for travel.

I also always like to have enough savings for a plane ticket home (just in case). And if that’s not possible, at least work towards a decent credit score so you can grab a quick micro loan like PayPal Credit (booking through Alternative Airlines).

ACTION ITEM 3:

Choose which country you want to start your nomadic journey in. Also plan the following country you’ll visit next. You’ll need to know this second country as proof of onward travel when landing overseas, unless you have a work visa for that country.

But don’t worry, you can always cancel that second plane ticket after you’re living overseas (if you decide later that you want to explore somewhere else).
